Here
are some dates to add to your diaries :
The 75th anniversary of the Holodomor will be commemorated at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of Our Lady of Pochayiv and St Andrew in Edinburgh on Sunday 23 November. The Sunday Liturgy @ 11 am will be followed by a special Panakhyda @ 12 noon, in memory of the millions of innocent Ukrainians who were forcibly starved to death in 1932-33. Participants will hold a candle in memory of the victims to display solidarity with Ukrainians throughout the world who are also commemorating this anniversary. We hope that as many Ukrainians and their families and friends will join us for this very important event.

A traditional event held every year by our
community. This year it will be
taking
place on Sunday 21st December from 3pm at 14 Royal Terrace.
St Nicholas, commonly assossiated with
Santa Claus, is the Patron Saint of Children and on
Sunday 21st December he will come
bearing gifts for all our Children to 14 Royal Terrace.Christmas in Ukraine is celebrated on January 7th and here in Edinburgh's Ukrainian Community we do so no differently as we will be celebrating in true Ukrainian Style on the 7th January 2009. The reason that Christmas in Ukraine falls on this date is due to the fact that the Ukrainian Church still follows the Julian Calendar. The upcoming celebrations will be taking place on Wednesday 7th January. A meal and festivities will take place at 14 Royal Terrace following mass at 11am at St Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Dalmeny Street, Leith. More information to follow...
Malanka
Malanka or Ukrainian New Year is usually celebrated on
New Years Eve, so according
to the Julian Calendar this falls on the 13th January. AUGB
Edinburgh will be hosting a Malanka 'Zabava' on Saturday
17th January 2009 - venue TBC. On this night in Ukraine,
Carolers would
go from house to house in the villages with a
batchelor leeding the group dressed in
woman's clothing. It is also usually the last
opportunity for partying before Lent.
